Garmin just stepped into the world of Esports like a pro player enters the arena of a world championship match, by delivering Esports athletes and enthusiasts a smartwatch that caters to their passions.
While this is just a reimagined version of the Instinct smartwatch that was already available, it has features catering to gamers. Like the ability to stream your stress levels during gameplay to your fans.
There are other features too. But more importantly, it’s an interesting take for Garmin. As a company that’s been rooted in GPS devices and fitness for a while now, venturing into the gaming industry through Esports is probably the last place you’d expect Garmin to go.
But it’s here now. Ready to take on the world of Esports in its own unique way.
Players can use the Garmin Instinct Esports smartwatch to live stream biometric data
What kind of gamer are you? Calm and collected? High strung? Garmin wants to know. And it’s giving players tools to not only analyze that but also live stream it to viewers.
Using Garmin’s new STR3AMUP! PC software, professional players and game live streaming content creators can provide new forms of entertainment. While viewers are unlikely to tune in just to see the biometric data of players during high-energy competitive gameplay, it is likely to keep people around as an added benefit to everything else.
More so it’s a unique piece of data that will add to the overall complete picture of a stream. The software in partner with the watch will stream heart rate, stress levels, and a body battery measurement. While the first two metrics are obvious, the body battery is basically a measurement that tells viewers how much energy a player has left to play.
Long-lasting battery life and an affordable price
The Garmin Instinct Esports Edition smartwatch has a long-lasting battery life that keeps it on par with other similar devices.
It’ll last for around two weeks (up to 14 days) in the normal smartwatch mode. Or, if you want to use the Esports mode features, the battery lasts for a few days (up to 80 hours). It’s also not too expensive, retailing for around $299.
That’s a pretty standard cost for a smartwatch these days. And at the same time a far cry from Garmin’s other hyper specialized smartwatches that were announced earlier this year in the MARQ line.
If you’re interested in picking up the Instinct Esports Edition for yourself, you can grab it from Garmin’s website. It’ll also be available on Amazon.
