If we go by the latest report by LetsGoDigital, the patent filed at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) shows that Samsung is seriously thinking of adding the S Pen to its Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable phone.

Well, this is not something new and has been rumored around for quite a while, ever since Samsung introduced the Fold devices.

Though Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2 are being touted as ultimate multi-tasking devices, they still don’t have the luxury of the S Pen.

But now, the patent reveals that the next foldable device from Samsung, i.e. the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will finally come with an S Pen. Moreover, the addition of S Pen will surely tick the box of being an ultimate multi-tasking device.

Since these fold devices come with an extra-large display, it becomes necessary for the device to have an S Pen. While the S Pen has been exclusive to the Galaxy Note series, this might change soon.

Notably, the WIPI patent was filed back in April 2020 and is published earlier this week. Apparently, a handful of sketches depict a Galaxy Fold device paired with an S Pen.

The stylus is housed inside of what we can guess is the Galaxy Z Fold 3 device. And it is similar to how the stylus is housed inside the body of the Galaxy Note series devices.

Samsung may adopt AES technology to bring the S Pen to Galaxy Z Fold 3

The patent was filed in April and Samsung may be very well ahead of implementing this technology. The 56-page document describes in-depth how Samsung would make Galaxy Z Fold 3 compatible with the stylus.

Just like the Galaxy Note series, Samsung wants to house the S Pen on the folding device to the right side of the phone. Additionally, Samsung is considering adopting AES technology to bring the stylus to the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

To give you some context, AES technology is expensive than an EMR digitizer. However, it is much more compatible and suitable for Foldable displays.

But we cannot say for sure that the company will be implementing AES technology or not. Though we also cannot negate this fact as this patent was filed back in April 2020.

LetsGoDigital along with Jermaine Smit created some renders of the phone patent along with the S Pen. And if you were to take our opinion, it does look great (Image attached below).

The patent also gives us some clarity that the size of the S Pen will remain the same as we have now. Note that with tablets like the Galaxy Tab S7+, Samsung provides a much larger stylus.

Clearly, that would not fit into the body of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 or any foldable device. We expect the Korean OEM to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with S Pen, somewhere in H2 of 2021.
