Qualcomm has just announced its annual Snapdragon Summit will take place on December 1, and we expect to see the Snapdragon 875 announced at that event.
Normally, the Snapdragon Summit takes place in Hawaii that first week of December. But since everything is virtual this year, due to the pandemic, the Snapdragon Summit won’t be in Hawaii, and instead will be virtual too.
However, according to the invite that Qualcomm sent out, it seems that the virtual event will be taking place from Hawaii, as it says it is “bringing the islands to you”. Which should make this an interesting live stream.
Snapdragon 875 all but confirmed
The Snapdragon 875 is pretty much confirmed to be announced at this event. As the invitation mentions “premium-tier mobile performance” and that is the Snapdragon 800-series. Not to mention the fact that the 800 series is always announced around this time of the year.
This year, we’re expecting that the Snapdragon 875 is going to be faster, more battery efficient, have better 5G performance and possibly some new camera features supported in its ISP. That’s what we expect from Qualcomm every year, and this is going to be no different.
There hasn’t been a ton of leaks on the Snapdragon 875 yet, but there will be, as we get closer to the December 1 date.
What phone will be the first with the Snapdragon 875?
Normally, Samsung is first to release a phone with the Snapdragon 875. Part of that is because Samsung manufacturers the Snapdragon 800-series chipsets. So it can kind of call the shots on Qualcomm and who gets the chipset first. But Samsung is also normally the first to launch a flagship smartphone in the new year with its Galaxy S smartphone.
While there is CES in January, there’s not many flagships announced there, they are typically lower-end models. Ones that aren’t going to garner a lot of attention. The big ones are usually announced at MWC (which is usually in February, but it has been moved to June in 2021). Samsung does often times do their big Unpacked event a couple of weeks ahead of MWC too, beating everyone else to the punch.
So you can pretty much guarantee that Samsung will be first with the Snapdragon 875 in the Galaxy S21 (or S30, whichever name they go with).
