It seems like new foldable smartphones are coming in 2021, as several companies are planning to launch them. A tipster, Ice Universe, shared the names of the companies that are planning to offer foldable smartphones next year.
Do note that he did not mention the usual suspects, Samsung and Motorola, as that is a given at this point. He did, however, say that Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO are planning to release foldables.
Several companies are expected release their first foldable smartphones in 2021
Huawei can also be considered the usual suspect, as the company already released two foldable devices. Xiaomi and OPPO, on the other hand, have not. Xiaomi even showed off its foldable prototype quite some time ago, but a real device never made it to market.
Well, it seems like these two Chinese tech giants are planning to push out their foldables to the market in 2021. Do note that these are probably not the only companies that will do so. Other OEMs may join the party as well.
So, for now, we’re expecting Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO to deliver foldable smartphones in 2021. Royole may join them and release a new FlexPai foldable as well, we’ll see.
There are a ton of other heavy hitters in the smartphone industry that may opt to release foldable as well. One thing is for sure, competition is good. The more foldables we see, the better, as they’ll keep on getting more affordable.
Xiaomi is worth keeping an eye on, as its foldable may be especially interesting
Xiaomi’s offering may be especially interesting, as the company’s goal is to offer devices that don’t cost a fortune. Don’t get me wrong, if it makes it to market, Xiaomi’s foldable won’t be cheap, but the company will probably do its best to keep its price as low as possible.
Ice Universe also mentioned that we shouldn’t expect rollable devices anytime soon. He says that such displays are still being tested. Still, LG is expected to announce its rollable in May next year, according to rumors. OPPO announced its rollable smartphone concept recently, but that device probably won’t make it to market until 2022. Whatever the case may be, 2021 will be the year of foldables, it seems.
