Disney+ Is About To Lose Millions Of Subscribers This Week

This sounds odd, but Disney+ is going to end up losing millions of subscribers this week.

Why is Disney+ going to lose a bunch of subscribers? Well, Verizon’s “year of Disney+ on us” promotion will start expiring on this Thursday. For those that signed up as soon as the offer was made available. Which means that customers are either going to transition into a paying customer at $6.99/month of $69.99/year. Or they are going to cancel their subscription. Many have already cancelled, so they won’t get charged when their year is up.

Most people won’t opt to keep Disney+

Disney+ has had a pretty tough first year since it debuted last November. Part of this is due the pandemic, and having to close down production on pretty much everything. Which delayed a lot of the content it had planned to launch in the first year of Disney+. And without new content, most people are going to ditch the service, even though it is a fraction of the price of Netflix, people still want new content.

Disney+ has started releasing some new content over the past few weeks though, including The Mandalorian Season 2. But that might not be enough to keep subscribers paying for Disney+ after this free year is up.

However, if you do want to keep it, and you are on Verizon (or want to switch to Verizon), there is a way to get it for free. On two of Verizon’s unlimited plans, you can get the Disney bundle included for free (as long as you remain with Verizon on this plan). The Play More Unlimited and Get More Unlimited plans include Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu for free. These plans are priced $80 and $90 per month, respectively. So these aren’t cheap, but it is still a great value.

Disney+ might be worth keeping for those with kids. Especially since most kids are at home all the time still, as the majority of schools are still doing virtual learning. But as far as adults go, the value of Disney+ is pretty limited right now.
