'Vanish Mode' Makes Messages Disappear On Both Messenger & Instagram

A cool new feature is now live for Facebook Messenger and Instagram. It’s called Vanish Mode, and it lets users send disappearing messages on Messenger and Instagram.

This piece of information was announced on an official Facebook blog. And it is a part of the big September update for Messenger. Apparently, this feature is live for both Messenger and Instagram.

It lets you send texts, photos, voice messages, emoji, and stickers that would disappear once the recipient has viewed it. Or if someone leaves the chat, then also the message will disappear.

This feature is similar to what the users have on Snapchat. The new Vanish Mode is available under Chat Settings on the Facebook Messenger app.

Facebook users will slowly get this feature working on the Messenger app. While for Instagram users, some of the features of Vanish Mode have already been part of the core direct messaging (DM) feature.

For instance, Instagram has disappearing photos and videos, once the media has been viewed. Moreover, Vanish Mode also has some elements of the already existing secret conversation mode in Messenger.

The secret conversation mode in Messenger lets you enter a secure end-to-end encrypted chat, that is saved only on the participant’s devices. However, the Vanish Mode takes this security one step forward, as it will delete any chat forever, once it is viewed.

Users have to opt-in Vanish Mode in order to use it on Messenger & Instagram

As per the official blog, Facebook says that users will have to opt-in in order to use Vanish Mode on Facebook Messenger and Instagram.

This means that you have to agree to some terms of the Vanish Mode if the other user in the chat has enabled this feature. Besides, both Messenger and Instagram will notify you if a screenshot is taken in Vanish Mode.

Users will also be able to report individuals for Vanish Mode conduct violations. Although it is not clear as to how much Facebook has access to review the violations.

Facebook Messenger and Instagram will have distinct options under Settings for Vanish Mode. And you can turn it on or off in the settings of any particular chat.

Additionally, you can enter the Vanish Mode in any chat simply by swiping up the chat window. Note that this feature is only available for one-to-one chats and will not be working on group chats.

If you wish to disable this feature, then you have to simply swipe down the chat window or turn this feature off from the top of the chat window.

The Vanish Mode for Messenger is available for users in the US, and some other countries. Whereas, for Instagram, this feature will arrive at a later date.
