A new update is now live for the Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa 3 smartwatches. The update brings Fitbit OS 5.1 that bundles Google Assistant support for the duo.
FYI, Google Assistant is the second voice assistant that the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 would now support. Previously, it had the support of Amazon Alexa. So, you have two options to choose from and make your life easier.
The Fitbit OS 5.1 update is going live for the Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa 3 users in the US. Moreover, the update also adds new blood oxygen monitoring features and support for audible replies from Alexa.
Lastly, it also brings enhancements to calling and messaging features on both watches. The support for Google Assistant was on the cards for the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 smartwatches since these devices were announced earlier this year.
Switching between both voice assistants, i.e. the Google Assistant and Alexa, is pretty simple. You just have to head over to the companion app and change it from there.
We also expect that these will not be the last smartwatches from Fitbit to grab Google Assistant support, as Fitbit is Google’s company now.
Fitbit OS 5.1 enables Fitbit Versa 3 and Sense answer calls directly when a phone is nearby
As you may have noticed, Fitbit OS 5.1 also brings the ability to reply to your queries via the smartwatch’s speakers. Previously, both the Fitbit Versa 3 and Sense would simply display the responses on the screen.
Besides, the watches’ calling and messaging functionality is also improving. Both the smartwatches can now answer calls directly via the speakers and microphone.
Before this Fitbit OS 5.1 update, both the smartwatches would only show the options to accept or reject calls. But for answering the calls, you would have to pick up your phone.
Users have been demanding the addition of the ability to be able to answer phone calls using these smartwatches. Which, luckily, this new update enables.
Additionally, Fitbit has also said that with the new update, Fitbit Versa 3 and Sense would support voice-to-text commands for responding to text messages on Android. That’s a great addition.
Another one of the most important features that this new update is adding is the SpO2 blood oxygen tracking improvements. Now you do not need to use a dedicated clock face in order to take pulse oximetry readings.
The company has also said that more SpO2 clock faces will come to the watches by the end of the year. Note that older Fitbit devices are not eligible to receive all the features.
