Samsung Highlights Key Features Of Exynos 1080 In A Promotional Video

Samsung officially launched the Exynos 1080 SoC two weeks ago at an online event in Shanghai, China. Now, the company has followed up with an official introduction video highlighting the key features of the new chipset. The one-and-a-half minute-long promotional video posted on YouTube doesn’t reveal anything that we didn’t already know. But it tries to build some hype around Samsung’s latest mobile SoC, saying it’s a “5G processor that makes your phone fly.”

Samsung takes pride in the Exynos 1080 chipset in a promotional video

The Exynos 1080 is a premium mid-range chipset that will power the next generation of high-end 5G phones from Samsung and other OEMs. The chipset comes with an integrated 5G modem and Samsung proudly boasts it. Theoretically, this chipset can deliver “groundbreaking” downlink speeds of up to 5.1Gbps at NR Sub-6GHz networks.

It has an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) for on-device AI. The NPU can offer up to 5.7 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of performance, making for fast AI processing, or as Samsung says, introducing “new heights of intelligence.”

The promotional video also reminds us that the Exynos 1080 is one of the first chipsets to get ARM’s new Cortex-A78 CPU cores. It has one Cortex-A78 core running at 2.8GHz, delivering a speed “beyond mobile computing”. The new SoC also has three more Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6GHz. The four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores operate at a maximum frequency of 2.0GHz. The chipset supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The latest Mali-G78 MP10 GPU is also there for “artistic graphics.”

The Exynos 1080 supports HDR10+ and a 144Hz screen refresh rate at Full HD+ resolution and, which, in Samsung’s terms, makes for “silky screen” and “flowing touches.”

This chipset can support camera sensors up to 200-megapixel. Samsung claims that it has “redesigned” mobile photography with AI-powered camera features on the Exynos 1080. The new chipset is also capable of HDR10+ video recording in 4K UHD, “redefining” mobile videography.

The Exynos 1080 is Samsung’s first processor fabricated on a 5nm EUV-based FinFET process. This brings low power consumption and higher efficiency while reducing the chip size by 25 percent as compared to the 7nm process.

Samsung claims that the Exynos 1080 would offer a 50 percent jump in single-core performance over previous-generation processors. Additionally, multi-core performance could see a 100 percent jump. However, we can only say for sure once it starts making its way into devices.

Samsung has surely built a good hype around its latest Exynos chipset, and we hope it doesn’t disappoint. The Exynos 1080 will reportedly debut inside a Vivo flagship early next year.
