Scheduling For Google Messages Begins Phased Roll Out

It appears the scheduling for Google Messages has begun rolling out for some users. As noted by Sai Reddy on Twitter, the features have finally become available for some users.

This has been a busy month or so for Google Messages. The app has begun rolling out and testing a number of new features. Most of these have tried to reduce the amount of clutter on users apps.

New features have included a new categorization feature which separates different sorts of messages for users. This feature is just in testing for now so not yet rolled out widely.

Google Messages has also begun allowing the automatic deletion of OTPs. This feature again aims to tackle clutter but getting rid of OTPs after a certain period of time to make message boxes easier to navigate.

This new scheduling feature also fits into this overall aim to reduce clutter and make the user experience easier. It appears that this feature will come to all users sooner rather than later compared to other features mentioned previously.

Google Messages begins rolling out scheduling feature

This new feature easily allows Google Messages users the ability for scheduling their messages. As the above screenshots show, you can now quickly decide when you want a message to sent through this new feature.

To schedule a message you simply press and hold on the Send button to bring up the new schedule message option. Then tapping on the option will open a  pop-up window will bring up three preset options. These are “Later today, 6:00 pm”, “Later tonight, 9:00 pm”, or “Tomorrow, 8:00 am”.

If you want to be more specific with your scheduling that is possible as well. A fourth custom option is available for you to press. This will bring up a pop-up menu with two options. These allow you to set the date and the time to send the message.

As shown below, once you set these parameters you can tap on the Save button to set the schedule. The selected date and time will then show up right above the text box.

All scheduled messages will show up with an icon next to them to indicate this. If you tap on this icon you can update or change the content as well as the scheduled time of this message. It appears that the latest Google Messages APK already includes code for the feature. This means that although the feature is not widely available right now it should be in the near future.
