Snapdragon 875 Is Coming, Xiaomi & OnePlus Are Helping Present

Qualcomm is all set to announce the Snapdragon 875 next-gen mobile platform and will be joined by Xiaomi and OnePlus for the event. That’s based on a recent report from MyFixGuide, detailing the 2020 Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit. The Summit will take place at 11:00 PM Beijing time on December 1 and December 2. That’s Beijing time — at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.

Now, because of the ongoing global COVID-19 crisis, the event will be broadcast live on Qualcomm’s official website and WeChat. But that’s not necessarily the biggest news of the day. Participants in the event outside of Qualcomm have reportedly been revealed as well.

Xiaomi & OnePlus will be there, so who else is attending this Snapdragon 875 event?

Joining the event’s hosts will be the CEO, founder, and chairman of Xiaomi Group Lei Jun. OnePlus’s Chief Marketing Officer Kyle Kiang will be there as well as Mitsuya Kishida. The latter executive is President of Sony Mobile Communications. While there has been no confirmation from any company involved regarding announcements, that does seem to indicate that these companies will be among the first to launch mobile devices.

Officially, Lei Jun will join to discuss the long-term close cooperation between Xiaomi and Qualcomm. And new product developments will be shared too. Conversely, Kyle Kiang will speak to the topic of mobile gaming. And is also expected to reveal cooperative efforts between OnePlus and Epic Games. Sony’s Mitsuya Kishida will be discussing gaming as well. Specifically regarding Sony’s promotional efforts regarding game development and Xperia.

Other noteworthy speakers from the first day of Qualcomm’s 2020 Snapdragon Technology Summit will be Verizon Chief Product Officer Nicki Palmer. She’ll be joined at the event by Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of NTT DOCOMO Naoki Tani and Co-founder and CEO of Hugging Face Clément Delangue. The former two executives will discuss 5G while Ms. Delangue will address the topic of AI.

What’s already known about Snapdragon 875?

Now, the Snapdragon 875 chipset has already been spotted in a number of leaks. Rumors speculate it will be built in partnership with Samsung and that it will be built on the 5nm process. Similar to Samsung’s own as-yet-unannounced Exynos 2100.

It will also utilize a different architecture than previous chips. Namely, an octa-core architecture split along a 1+3+4 configuration. The “1” core will be the most powerful, presumably Cortex X1 core. The remaining cores will be progressively more power-efficient.
