Sony Xperia Compact Line May Return With Surprising Specs

The latest report by Japanese blog AndroidNext asserts that Sony is working on a potentially new Compact line of Xperia phones. Besides, the devices are expected to pack a punch under the hood in terms of specs.

Well, Sony has released a bunch of phones in 2020. Finally, Sony understood its competency and brought in the Sony Xperia 1 II smartphone, which is a camera-centric phone. It was launched back in February 2020.

Then Sony also announced a smaller version of the Xperia 1 II, the Xperia 5 II. The phone packs all the goodness from the Xperia 1 II within a smaller form factor.

The display on the device is 6.1-inches compared to the 6.5-inches on the Xperia 1 II. Both the phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and are focused on providing granular photography controls to the users.

However, the latest rumors suggest that the company will bring its Compact Xperia line of devices. These devices will come with powerful mid-range specs.

For those who are not aware, the Compact line of smartphones is not a new thing for Sony. Back in its glory days, Sony used to come out with a Compact line of phones.

These devices were smaller in size and packed decent specs. Moreover, the Compact devices were appreciated back in the day for their pocket-friendly size.

The new Sony Xperia Compact line is speculated to be powered by the Snapdragon 775

The new Sony Xperia Compact line of devices is speculated to pack in next-gen chipsets. The Snapdragon 775 is touted to be the processor that the new Compact devices will pack.

The new Compact device and the rumored Xperia 10 III will not be the same. Notably, the Xperia 10 III is rumored to be launched with Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 SoC.

Snapdragon 775 is the successor to the Snapdragon 765/765G that most of the mid-rangers in 2021 will be powered by. So, it is good to see Sony not missing out on that trend.

If this rumor turns out to be true, then we could see a return of the Sony Xperia Compact line of devices in the market. In fact, Sony will finally enter the competitive “affordable-5G” devices category.

The new Compact devices will surely launch somewhere in mid-2021. And by that time, the Snapdragon 775 would have been launched.

Since brands like Apple have already entered the affordable 5G territory, it would be a nice time for Sony to join the bandwagon with its compact line of phones.

But note that these are early rumors. So, we would advise our readers to take these pieces of information with a pinch of salt.
