Blizzard Begins Limited Public Alpha Test For Diablo Immortal

Months have gone by without hearing so much as a peep from Blizzard about the state of Diablo Immortal, but now it looks like the the studio is finally ready to begin a public alpha test.

Today on the official Diablo Immortal Twitter page, Blizzard confirmed that a limited public alpha test is starting to take place.

So how do you get access to the public alpha test? Well, you’d have had to pre-register for the game via Google Play on Android or the App Store on iOS. You could also pre-register from the Diablo Immortal landing page by signing in with your Battle.net account. And chances are slim that you’d get access now if you didn’t pre-register for the game early on. Pre-registration has been available for more than a year now.

The Diablo Immortal public alpha test will initially be limited to Australia

Blizzard it seems is going to start things small. Not too unlike Riot has done with League of Legends: Wild Rift.

The Diablo Immortal public alpha test will initially start in Australia. So that rules out any chance of getting early access to the game in its current state unless you live within the region.

The good news though is that the testing will expand to other regions outside of Australia eventually. It’s just a matter of when and where. As of right now Blizzard hasn’t shared any details on additional test regions. But its official Twitter account for Diablo Immortal just unloaded a deluge of new information about the game.

Which shows that development is coming along quite nicely. It also suggests that the team is likely going to be more active in sharing information about the game with players.

Technical alpha players will not get access to the full game

When Blizzard says the technical alpha is limited, it means limited. And not just with regards to how many people will get to check out the technical alpha. Players that get access to the game through this test in Australia won’t get access to the full game.

Instead, Blizzard will be opening up the first part of the storyline for the test. Letting players check out how the all-new story unfolds, as well as explore and discover new and familiar realms as it seeks out feedback from the players.

In addition to working on the story and starting the technical alpha, Blizzard has also shed some light on details about Diablo Immortal’s loot system.

Legendary gear will be “self-found” and cannot be traded. So you won’t be able to snag that cool new piece of legendary gear from a friend if they try to drop it on the ground. You’ll have to acquire it all on your own.

Players will also have access to 12 total gear slots. With a focus of legendary gear being reserved for the slots where, as Blizzard describes it, “they better highlight the unique appearances and abilities” that the gear offers.

Gear is broken down into primary and secondary slots

When it comes to Diablo, the stories and the combat are fantastic, but it’s always, always about the loot. But of course you need open gear slots to equip that loot.

In Diablo Immortal the item slot system is broken down into two parts. Primary gear slots and Secondary gear slots. There are 12 total slots, as noted above, and these will be split between primary and secondary equally.

The primary slots include head, legs, torso, weapon, shoulder, and your off-hand/secondary weapon. The secondary slots will be reserved for rings (two in total), neck pieces, feet, hands and waist items.

Diablo Immortal will also have four gear rarities. Which include normal items, magic items, rare items, and legendary items. Blizzard says that it will not be including item sets, as it wants players to have the freedom to mix and match their gear for both aesthetic purposes as well as for build uniqueness.

Blizzard shared quite a bit more about the gear and itemization, which you can read about here.
