Chromecast With Google TV Update Brings Improved Content Recommendations

With a new update, Google is adding some new tools for improved content recommendations on its Chromecast with Google TV. Notably, this new update for Chromecast with Google TV makes it smarter.

The device runs on the advanced version of the Android TV operating system and now users will be able to train the device to show improved content recommendations.

Previously, the Chromecast with Google TV device used to show content recommendations based on what it learned from your watch history, subscribed services, and more.

However, after the latest update, Chromecast users will be able to get recommendations simply by telling Google directly what content they like or don’t like.

There is a new ‘Content Preference’ option now available with the latest update for Chromecast with Google TV. Specifically, you need to head over to Settings and there you will find the ‘Content Preferences’ option.

Under this section, Chromecast users can find an assortment of titles and shows. Here they can rate the titles by pressing “More like this” and “Less like this” options to help Google recognize users’ likes and dislikes.

The preferences set will apply not just to the Chromecast, but also the Google TV app & the web

Under the ‘Content Preferences’ menu, you will be asked about your likes and dislikes for a series of films and/or TV shows. This is more or less similar to what we have on the dating app Tinder.

You need to swipe right on the content you like that will encourage Google TV to recommend shows and movies like the one you approved. Moreover, swiping left will tell the software to suggest fewer similar options.

Good thing is that once you have set your preferences on a Chromecast device, it will also be reflected on the Google TV app and the web version as well.

In fact, wherever you use your Google account, the preferences set on the Chromecast device will be saved and reflected. So, you don’t need to set preferences manually as per your choices everywhere.

Google says that this new Chromecast with Google TV update is rolling out for users over the next few weeks. FYI, you can already tell the Chromecast if you like or dislike a show that it offers you on the home screen.

But the catch is that the shows are not updated immediately. Meaning that it will continue to show the same shows even though you have disliked them.
