Fossil is making the Facer app a default installation on all of its Gen 5 Wear OS watches. If you don’t already have Facer installed on your Gen 5, you can grab it from the Play Store.
One thing to note is that this collaboration between Fossil and the Facer devs will see the app pre-installed on all new Gen 5 watches. Which means any watch that customers purchase in the near future from the Gen 5 line and likely all future Fossil watches that run on the Wear OS platform.
Fossil does not appear to be sending out any updates that will push Facer to watches that are already being used. So you’ll still have to install it manually if you already own one of the Gen 5 models. There’s also a possibility now that Facer will come pre-installed on Wear OS smartwatches from other brands.
Facer will be pre-installed on Wear OS-powered Gen 5E watches from Fossil as well
It isn’t just Gen 5 watches that will get the preinstalled app. Facer says that the Gen 5E will come with it out of the box too.
With this partnership in place buyers of either model will be afforded some benefits. Such as a 30-day free trial of Facer Premium. With that Facer Premium subscription, users get a month of access to all sorts of premium watch faces. Some of these may cost anywhere from $1 to $3.
This is of course in addition to the already existing thousands of free watch faces. If you own a Wear OS watch and you haven’t checked out Facer before, you should. You’d be surprised at how many customization options there are.
And it really does add an additional layer of uniqueness to the watch that you have. Users will also get access to monthly updated lists of new watch faces. Not to mention a collection of faces that are curated by Fossil that are also updated on a regular basis.
Facer is free, so don’t hesitate to give it a try
Aside from the fact that Facer gives you access to thousands and thousands of free watch faces, Facer itself is free.
Which is another good reason to give it a shot if you have a smartwatch that runs on Wear OS. Whether it’s from Fossil or not. While you might be content with the faces that are pre-installed from the manufacturer, there’s a lot to miss out on in Facer if you’re not looking.
