As per the latest report by Android Police, Google Messages is now getting the schedule messages functionality. This feature is similar to what we have on Gmail and Telegram apps.
Google has recently begun rolling out this Google Messages schedule messages feature for its users. The new functionality started showing up for a few people as a part of an a/b test back in November.
Finally, the Google Messages schedule messages feature is now live more widely for all the users, at least in the US. However, note that it may take some time to be visible for all the users across the globe.
In order to check whether or not you have received this feature, you need to tap and hold the send button in a chat. This may open the schedule dialog or will show up in the old MMS subject interface.
If you have received this new schedule message feature on Google Messages, the new dialog will allow you to schedule a message. Though you need your phone to be turned on and also have an active internet connection to send the message.
The new schedule message option shows up a collection of pre-defined times and dates or selects a specific moment. This is a nifty feature to have as you can now schedule a birthday message for your loved one and send your wishes right on time.

While we already have this feature on more popular apps like Telegram, etc. the arrival of the schedule messages feature on Google Messages makes it a viable alternative.

Talking about this new feature, you might be wonder how to add the MMS subject line once this schedule messages feature is enabled. You need to tap the three-dot icon at the top and look for a new Show subject field entry.
The latest release of the Google Messages app is now live on the Play Store. Note that the beta app will not enable this feature for you.
So, if the feature is not live for you, then you should wait and hope Google rolls out the server-side update sooner rather than later.
