The Best Game On Google Play For 2020 Isn't All That Surprising

Today Google announces the Best of Google Play 2020 list, which includes things like the best game, the best app, the best movie, and the best book. All things which are still available to purchase on Google Play. At one point it would have included the best song and best album. But it’s no longer possible to purchase music on Google Play so it likely wasn’t included this year for specifically that reason.

If you’re tapped into the mobile gaming world even a little bit, the best game on Google Play for 2020 isn’t all that surprising. It’s a title that most people are probably familiar with. Either from personal experience because they’ve played it, or they’ve seen headlines about it everywhere for the last few months because it’s been that popular.

The best game on Google Play in 2020 is Genshin Impact

According to Google and the Google Play team, 2020’s best title is Genshin Impact. Genshin Impact is an open-world anime-style action adventure RPG. It’s been wildly popular because if its availability on mobile as well as console and PC. Aand because of the excellent combat and engaging gameplay.

And it’s even possible to save progress from either PC or mobile and play it on the other platform. PS4 unfortunately does not have this capability. All that aside, Genshin Impact is this year’s best game for Google’s own list. Which is curated by people on the Google Play team.

However, there is also a list for User’s Choice, which takes into account the selections of the user base. Genshin Impact is not the chosen game for this category based on all the votes from users. Instead that achievement belongs to a game called Spongebob: Krusty Cook-Off.

Users also chose Disney+ as the best app, again unsurprising here, while best movie was Bad Boys For Life, and the best book was If It Bleeds by Stephen King.

Google’s best app selection was Loona: Bedtime Calm & Relax. Meanwhile there are actually multiple movie and book selections.

Google chooses top five for both books and movies

It seems Google couldn’t narrow the movies and books down to just one. Or rather it just decided it would be better to choose the best five from each category. The movies that made the cut were Parasite, Bill & Ted Face The Music, Just Mercy, Miss Juneteenth, and Onward.

The books that were selected include Barack Obama’s recent book, The Promised Land, as well as The City We Became, Riot Baby, Solutions and Other Problems, and You Had Me At Hola.
