Play Store On Android TV Gets Redesigned Interface, New Icons & More

According to a new report by Android Police, Google is rolling out a new update for the Play Store on Android TV, Google TV, that brings a revamped interface, a new toolbar, new icons, and much more.

About a year ago, Google rolled out an update for Play Store on Android TV that redesigned the interface and focussed more on content discovery, larger thumbnails, interactive backgrounds, and a modern design.

With the launch of Chromecast with Google TV, the Play Store interface started looking dated. So, in order to keep things fresh and feel at home, Google is rolling out some improvements for the interface.

Though the changes may look minor, every addition is a welcome change. Especially for Chromecast with Google TV users, as this new update brings the interface as close to Play Store on Android TV.

Notably, the update is bringing all these changes via a server-side update. It is landing on both the Shield TV and Chromecast with Google TV and arrives with Play Store version 22.9.09.

Apparently, the server-side update will arrive at different points of time depending on regions. So, everyone will be getting the latest Play Store update at some point, soon.

The Settings cog is removed and replaced with the Google account’s avatar

Let us talk about all the changes, one by one. The first thing you will notice is that the word-based Apps, Games, and My Apps tabs have been replaced by small icons.

When you hover onto these icons, it will expand them to show their titles, while also adding a white selection around them. However, their corresponding pages remain the same and show the same content.

Moreover, the Settings cog or gear icon is replaced with the Google account’s avatar. The search icon has been moved to the left of the screen. It shows popular app suggestions even before you start searching.

The ‘My Apps’ section, which sits beside your account avatar, is now called Manage apps & games. The Settings menu is completely redesigned and there three sections in total.

The first section is for app management, the second is for account switching, and the third for various other settings. All this makes the layout and all the options under the Settings menu, easier to understand.

The Play Store interface update is rolling out as a server-side update. But if you do not want to wait and wish to update right away, then you can grab the APK from APK Mirror by clicking here.
