Motorola Moto G Handset Powered By Snapdragon 800 Series Coming In 2021

Qualcomm recently announced the all-new Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. A majority of the Android flagship smartphones launching in 2021 will be featuring this new chipset. Several OEMs have already announced to launch their next-gen flagships with the Snapdragon 888 chipset. Meanwhile, Motorola has confirmed to launch the 2021 Moto G smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 800-series chipset.

In the video shared during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital 2020 event, Motorola’s executive mentioned the 2021 Moto G smartphone will launch with the Snapdragon 800-series chipset. Since he didn’t specifically mention using the Snapdragon 888 SoC, the company may launch with the older Snapdragon 800-series chipset.

Or else, Qualcomm could even come up with yet another Snapdragon 800-series chipset designed explicitly for budget flagship smartphones. The upcoming Moto G smartphone launching in 2021 will be the 10th generation device of the popular Moto G series.

2021 Moto G smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform?

Apart from confirming to launch with a Snapdragon 800-series chipset, no other details have been revealed yet. If the company was able to include the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform in the next-gen Moto G smartphone, there will be more budget flagships coming in 2021 featuring flagship Snapdragon chipsets.

In contrast, the rumored high upfront cost of the current-gen Snapdragon 865 mobile platform made the OEMs to opt for Snapdragon 700-series chipsets for the budget flagship devices. Compared to the Snapdragon 888 chipset found in the budget smartphones, the same chipset in the premium flagship smartphones may come loaded with all the bells and whistles.

While there will be differences in additional features, the chipset’s performance should mostly remain the same on all the devices. With the Moto G 5G Plus, the Lenovo-owned company has launched the first-ever Moto G smartphone with 5G connectivity. In 2020, the company also made a comeback to the flagship segment with the Motorola Edge+ smartphone.

The next-gen Moto G launching in 2021 will certainly be the first Moto G-series smartphone to feature a flagship chipset. While there is no official confirmation from the company, it could also be working on the successor to the Motorola Edge+ featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform.

If the Moto G smartphone features the Snapdragon 888, Motorola might finally launch the Razr smartphone with a flagship chipset. The company also announced that its 5G smartphones are now available through 100+ partners around the world. Lenovo will also launch a new gaming smartphone under the Legion brand featuring the newly announced Snapdragon 888 mobile platform.
