OnePlus Rolling Out New Security Patch Update To The OnePlus Nord

OnePlus has started rolling out the December 2020 security patch update for the OnePlus Nord. The update comes a week after the OnePlus Nord N10 5G received a similar update. This new update for the original OnePlus Nord comes with the build number 10.5.10.AC01DA for India, 10.5.10.AC01BA for Europe, and 10.5.10.AC01AA for other markets.

Unlike the newer OnePlus Nord smartphones, the original OnePlus Nord has never been made available in the US. As per the changelog, the latest OTA update includes the December 2020 Android security patch and September 2020 GMS package.

OnePlus Nord gets December 2020 security patch update

Since OnePlus rolls out bi-monthly security patches, the OnePlus Nord updates from the October security patch to the December security patch. Apart from the latest security patch, this new OTA update includes regular bug fixes and stability improvements. For the Indian market, the update will additionally include the OnePlus Store app.

Interestingly, the company also explicitly mentions that the newly added app can also be manually uninstalled by the user. OnePlus smartphones already come pre-installed with the OnePlus Community app. While pre-installed bloatware is never a good thing, at least OnePlus allows for the removal of most of the bloatware.

Still no Android 11 update for the mid-range OnePlus smartphones

The new OxygenOS 10.5.10 update will roll out incrementally and could take a few days to reach all eligible devices. In the meantime, users can also manually search for the latest update by going to Settings > System > System updates and tap on check for updates. If the new update is available, tap on download and install now.

The OnePlus Nord is one of the best mid-range smartphones available in the market. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G mobile platform, the device also supports 5G connectivity, making it futureproof as well. While OnePlus has already rolled out the Android 11-based Oxygen OS 11 update for the OnePlus 8 series and OnePlus 8T, it is yet to roll out the same for its mid-range OnePlus Nord devices.

Even the newly launched OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100 came with Android 10 out of the box. Unlike the flagship OnePlus smartphones, the Nord-branded OnePlus smartphones won’t be receiving multiple years of Android update. While all three OnePlus Nord smartphones have come with Android 10 out of the box, the upcoming Android 11 update will be the last major update for these devices.

While the company is yet to reveal the roadmap for the Oxygen OS 11 update for all its smartphones, the OnePlus Nord smartphones are rumored to receive the Android 11 update in the first quarter of 2021.
