Today Razer announced its latest venture into the audio market with a pair of THX-certified earbuds. They’re called the Hammerhead True Wireless Pro, and they’re the follow-up last year’s Hammerhead True Wireless.
The “Pro” isn’t just for show either. These new earbuds boast features that should be an improvement over the previous version. The least of which is the THX certification that Razer worked hard to secure. And they’re a result of efforts to combine two of Razer’s product offerings. The true wireless earbuds and the over-ear ANC Opus headphones.
Razer says it took what people loved about the Hammerhead True Wireless and the Opus and molded that into its first pair (but probably not the last) of true wireless earbuds with a THX certification.
Razer added more than just a THX certification to these earbuds
The Hammerhead True Wireless Pro have a lot packed in their tiny housings. The THX certification is just one of the standout features.
In addition to the THX-certified audio, the earbuds also come with Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation. This is the same technology used in the Opus headphones. So there’s one Feedforward mic and one Feedback mic on each earbud.
According to Razer this helps it to block out most outside noise so you can focus on and enjoy what you’re listening to. Whether it’s game audio, the voice chat, or your favorite music tracks.
The earbuds now also come with what Razer calls Quick Attention Mode. This is just an ambient mode that allows sound in so you can more easily hear things. You can use this when you want to hear your surroundings outside, or when you need to have a quick conversation. Say at checkout stands when you’re ready to pay for stuff.
The last pair of these earbuds didn’t have this feature though. So this is another big improvement that Razer saw the need for.
7 pairs of ear tips promise a super comfortable and secure fit in your ears
Another big change this time around is the fit. Razer was heavily focused on making these fit better and more securely in your ears. To do that it did two things.
One is that it included 7 pairs of ear tips. There are three different sizes of translucent silicone ear tips, as well as three different sizes of black silicone ear tips. Then there’s a single pair of premium ear tips from Comply. These are likely to be the ear tips you want to use if you want the most comfortable fit.
But there’s also a way to find out what suits you best. The companion app from the old pair of earbuds has been updated to include a fit test for the Pro model. Which, when taken, can help determine if the tips you’re using are allowing any sound leakage.
When it comes to battery life nothing much has changed. The earbuds still last for up to 4 hours on a single charge. But that is with ANC on, and there is an extra charge in the case now. So you get up to 16 additional hours of listening time over 4 charges as opposed to up to 12 across 3 charges.
The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro go on sale today through Razer’s website. And they’ll also be available from retail partners starting this month.
