Samsung Just Inadvertently Confirmed There Won't Be Another Galaxy Note Smartphone

There’s been rumors for the past few weeks that the Galaxy Note 20 series was likely Samsung’s last Galaxy Note smartphone. Though these rumors are not new. We’ve heard them for many years, as the Galaxy S line got closer and closer to the Note lineup. But this time around, it seems to be a done deal.

And Samsung’s president of mobile, TM Roh, pretty much just confirmed it in a new blog post.

In this blog post, Roh was talking somewhat vaguely about Samsung’s product roadmap for 2021. Mentioning that S Pen support would be coming to more devices next year. He also mentioned that Samsung plans to broaden its foldable lineup next year.

Roh also mentioned that Samsung will do more with UWB next year. That is not a surprise at all, considering the fact that Apple also added it to some of its devices this fall. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see more Android smartphone makers also add UWB.

With S Pen Support on other devices, the Galaxy Note line has nothing to differentiate it

There’s two things we can learn from this part of Roh’s blog post. Bringing S Pen support to more devices means the Galaxy Note lineup is probably done. As that was really the only thing that differentiated it from the Galaxy S line of smartphones. Seeing as the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra were both the same screen size and had the same specs.

The other thing, is that Samsung has learned that it is probably easier to put a S Pen in a case than to put it inside of a phone. And that also means that those that don’t want the S Pen don’t need to use that case with the S Pen. So it works out for everyone.

Roh also mentioned that more details would be coming in January. Essentially confirming that the Galaxy S21 would be announced in January of next year. Which is going to be an entire month early, compared to usual.
