Samsung phones’ default payment method, Samsung Pay is soon going to lose one of its key features, the Rewards Program. The program will shut its doors in 2021.
Samsung Pay Rewards Program is one popular feature among all the Samsung smartphone owners. As it allows them to collect points or rewards which can be redeemed later for purchasing anything.
However, this rewards program will go away as soon as this year ends. Samsung Pay has a few benefits over Google Pay, which is the reason most Samsung users use Samsung Pay.
It uses MST, which is a contactless solution popular in the US. And this helps users make payments easily and earn rewards. You can accrue reward points by purchasing products via Samsung Pay and later use it to purchase some other items.
But as per Android Police, in an email sent over to all the Samsung Rewards members, the company has clarified that 2021 will be the end of this program.
Notably, this affects both the transactions in Samsung Pay and Samsung gift card purchases. Moreover, with the retirement of the Samsung Pay rewards program, we will also see the end of the Tier program.
The Samsung Pay rewards program will end as soon as December 31, 2020
Well, the email mentions that the Samsung Pay rewards program will end as on the last day of the year, i.e. December 31, 2020. The tier program which also is ending allowed for an increased rewards rate multiplier.
Apparently, this was based on the number of points you have earned. Basically meaning that the more you spend, the more you get, and too faster.
In reality, Samsung Pay is not going to completely end, nor the actual rewards program. After December 31, 2020, Samsung users will get rewards points for the purchase done via Samsung.com, the Galaxy Store, and other Samsung services and applications.
So, there are still a lot of ways to earn the reward points and redeem them to purchase. Besides, this is not the first time any action has been taken by Samsung for its rewards program.
As noted by Android Police, back in 2018, Samsung cut down the rewards points earned in Samsung Pay across all of those tiers in half. Then another change happened in 2019.
Good thing is that Samsung phones run on Android, so you are not out of options. Users can still make use of Google Pay or Apple Pay. In fact, Google Pay has a reward program of its own.
