Sony Shares Android 11 Rollout Schedule For Xperia Phones

Google launched the Android 11 OS back in September and it packed in some cool features. Sony now has shared a detailed timeline of the Android 11 rollout for Xperia phones.

Brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc. have already either rolled out the stable Android 11 update or are at the beta testing stage. And soon, Sony will join this bandwagon.

Android is a mature operating system. By ‘Mature’ we mean there is less room for adding new features. . More focus is now put towards enhancing and evolving the existing features.

Apparently, Android 11 also got the same treatment by Google. No, we are not denying that Android 11 does not bring any new features. They are not as much as we used to get back in the early days of Android OS.

Whatever the case may be, Android 11 is more refined, and really enhances the overall user experience. Since these are the early days of the OS, several OEMs are yet to release the stable Android 11 updates for their eligible devices.

Sony, on the other hand, is all set and ready to begin the rollout of the Android 11 update in December with the Xperia 1 II. It launched the Xperia 1 II this year, and it is this year’s flagship offering from the company.

Sony Xperia 1 II is also set to receive slow-mo video recording in 4K@120 fps

Earlier, it was confirmed that the Sony Xperia 1 II will receive an update that will bring support for slow-mo video recording in 4K@120 fps.

Other premium offerings from the company, the Xperia 10 II and Xperia 5 II, will get the Android 11 update by the end of January 2021. Finally, the Xperia 1 and 5 will grab the Android 11 update starting in February.

Some key features that Sony has highlighted that it will bring with Android 11 are improved chat management, conversation bubbles, native screen recording. enhanced security and much more.

Sony is not a name to reckon with when it comes to rolling out fast firmware or security updates. Recently, some improvements have been made in the rollout of security updates. But it has a lot to catch up on in the firmware section.

So, it is nice to see Sony taking the charge. However, there is no news about other models. We speculate that Android 11 may not arrive on any other Sony Xperia devices. This includes last year’s mid-range Xperia 10 and 10 Plus models.

The Android 11 rollout timeline from Sony is pretty limited to a few devices, which may irk users of older Sony Xperia devices. For more info, you can head here.
