Xiaomi has announced its new flagship, the Mi 11, in China today. This press event was in Chinese, and the global launch will follow. Aside from some software-related differences, and different mobile connectivity bands, the global version probably won’t differ all that much.
That being said, we know very well what to expect based on this launch. The Xiaomi Mi 11 did leak several times, and those leaks were spot on, when it comes to the design. This phone has a lot to offer in general, though.
One of the Xiaomi Mi 11 variants comes with a leather back
The Xiaomi Mi 11 comes in two design variants, actually. The first one is made out of metal and glass, and that’s the regular offering. For those of you who want something different, and less slippery, Xiaomi also combined that metal with a leather back.
The device actually comes in five color variants, three metal + glass ones, and two metal + leather ones. Black, White, and Blue glass back models got announced. Leather comes in Brown and Blue-Purple color options.
The phone features extremely thin bezels, and a display camera hole in the top-left corner of the display. Its display is curved on all four sides, actually. The power / lock, volume up, and volume down buttons are all placed on the right-hand side.
It has a gorgeous, huge display with 480Hz touch sampling rate
Now, regarding that display. We’re looking at a large, 6.81-inch panel here. That is a 2K aka QHD AMOLED display. It offers a resolution of 3200 x 1440, and a PPI of up to 515. It is a 120Hz panel, so it’s a high refresh rate. On top of all that, a 480Hz touch sampling rate is included, which is unrivaled in the market.
We’re not sure if Xiaomi is talking about refresh rate here, or a combination between that the resolution, but there are options. Speaking of the display, it’s also worth saying that the display received DisplayMate’s A+ rating. Also, this display is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus.
Stereo speakers are included in the package, and the audio has been tuned by Harman Kardon. This phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chip. The Mi 11 is actually the very first smartphone with this processor, well, the very first announced with that chip. It also supports 5G connectivity.
LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage are included
The phone is also equipped with LPDDR5 RAM, the fastest version around. The same goes for storage, as it supports UFS 3.1 storage. During the press conference, Xiaomi mentioned a variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
A 4,600mAh battery sits inside the Xiaomi Mi 11, while the phone does support both fast wired and fast wireless charging. It supports 55W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. On top of that, 10W reverse wireless charging is also included. What is not included, however, is the charger. The Xiaomi Mi 11 in both variants with and without a charger. The environmentally-friendly version does not include a charger, while the standard version does come with a 55W charger. They cost the same in China at this very moment, though that may change after the phone becomes available. The version with a charger may become a bit more expensive, we’ll see.
Its triple camera setup is lead by a 108-megapixel sensor from ISOCELL
Now, in regards to the phone’s cameras, you’ll find three of them on the back, and one on the front. Rear cameras are led by a 108-megapixel sensor from Samsung’s ISOCELL. This camera supports OIS, it offers a 1.6um pixel size (4-in-1), an f/1.85 aperture, and a 25mm 7P lens.
The second camera on the back is a 5-megapixel macro unit (4P 50mm lens, f/2.4 aperture). The last one is a 13-megapixel sensor. This is an ultra-wide camera with a 15mm 5P lens, an f/2.4 aperture, and a 123-degree FoV. On the front, you’ll find a 20-megapixel camera.
An in-display fingerprint scanner is included here, and Xiaomi says that the Mi 11 supports “fingerprint detection heart rate function”. So, it seems like that very same sensor acts as a heart rate sensor, or something of the sort, it’s still not clear.
The is available in both 8GB and 12GB RAM variants
The Xiaomi Mi 11 measures 164.3 x 74.6 x 8.06mm (8.56mm thickness on the leather variant), while it weighs 196 grams (194 grams on the leather version). The phone comes in three different RAM and storage setups. The most affordable one includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and it costs CNY3,999 ($612).
The middle-of-the-road setup sports 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and it’s priced at CNY4,299 ($657). The most expensive Mi 11 variant costs CNY4,699 ($719), and it comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
We’re not sure if the leather models are exclusive to the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage combo, but it’s possible. We’ll have to wait for more information on that. Also, we’re not sure if the leather models will become available globally, but they hopefully will. Also, the Mi 11 Pro model was not mentioned, every single variant is called the Mi 11, without the ‘Pro’ name.
