Zoom will reportedly lift its 40-minute free user limit for video calls for the holidays. That’s based on a company tweet, posted to the official Twitter account.
In total, Zoom hopes to cover virtual get-togethers in-app for no fewer than four different cultural celebrations. Namely, those are Christmas Eve and Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. As well as the final day for both Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
This could become a trend going forward
Now, Zoom’s reason for extending the limit removal for users isn’t explicitly stated but undoubtedly is a direct result of Covid-19. Namely, as cases continue to surge and a vaccine for the general populace is imminent, users are likely to stay home for the holidays. Video calling represents a great way to get together despite the distancing restrictions.
Zoom already extended a similar offer for Thanksgiving as well. So this may become a trend going forward for all major holidays, helping the company cement itself as a top app for video gatherings.
Here are the exact days and times for the holidays that Zoom lift its limit
Now, the dates and times will be very specific in terms of how and when Zoom is lifting its limit for free users for the holidays. And they don’t fall exactly on the dates for the holidays in question either. Instead, there are three date ranges meant to cover it all.
As a result, the first free use time for Zoom kicked off today through December 19 just for starts. That’s from 10 AM Eastern Time to 6 AM Eastern time on December 19, to be precise. Then, starting at 10 AM Eastern time on December 23, the second free use period opens up. That one will run Until December 26 at 6A M Eastern time.
Finally, Zoom will open things up beyond the 40-minute limit starting December 30 at 10 AM Eastern time. That slot will come to an end on January 2 at 6 AM.
