Amazon Fire TV & Roku Confirmed as Launch Partners For discovery+

discovery+ is set to go live today, as the newest streaming service, with content from all of Discovery’s cable channels, and plenty of originals. And we’ve just heard from both Amazon and Roku that Fire TV and Roku will be launch partners for discovery+. Meaning that both platforms will be supported at launch.

Recent streaming service launches have come without support for Fire TV and Roku, which brought a lot of backlash to them – primarily Peacock and HBO MAX. Seeing as Roku and Fire TV are the two biggest streaming platforms in the US right now. With Roku having over 46 million users.

What is discovery+?

As mentioned, discovery+ is the latest streaming service to launch. And it comes in at an interesting time. Where we already have a ton of other streaming services available.

It includes content from the Discovery library, as well as some original content coming later on. This includes content from HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, Animal Planet, and Discovery channel. It costs just $4.99 per month, and comes with a seven-day trial. So it’s actually a really great streaming service to add to your collection. As it is likely the cheapest streaming service out there – since ESPN+ has just gone up on its pricing.

discovery+ seems to only be missing Android TV

Looking at the list of supported devices, it looks like the only device that is missing is actually Android TV. Which is a bit surprising. Considering the fact that Google isn’t as strict about apps on that platform as Roku and Fire TV are – they want to be able to sell ads on the apps on their platform. However Android TV is a less popular platform, so that’s not a big deal. And is likely coming in the near future.

Though, discovery+ is available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, as well as Samsung Smart TVs that are 2017 and newer.
