For the first time ever, a Galaxy S smartphone supports the S Pen. Only the Galaxy S21 Ultra supports the S Pen this time around – not the entire lineup. Even though the Galaxy S21 Ultra does support Wacom’s technology, there are still some things that the S Pen can and can’t do on this smartphone.
The experience won’t be the same as on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Not to mention the fact that the S Pen does not come in the box. It is available to purchase separately or with a case that will hold the S Pen with the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
What can (and can’t) the S Pen do?
As mentioned, the S Pen experience is not the same as it is on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. As there is no way to charge the S Pen on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. So any of the remote features will not work on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It can basically only be used as a stylus.
None of the Air Commands or Gestures will work with the S Pen on this device, unfortunately. And that’s largely due to the fact that there is no way to charge the S Pen with this smartphone. Since it does not have a silo inside the device to store the S Pen. However, Samsung has said that might change in the future. It is something that they are looking to add to the Galaxy S21 Ultra and future Galaxy S devices in the future. So definitely be on the lookout for that.
But at launch, you can use the S Pen on the S21 Ultra to sign documents, scroll through your Twitter timeline and the like. You can take notes, and also do some drawing on your Galaxy S21 Ultra. That is likely what most people are using the S Pen for anyways. Note-taking and signing documents are most likely the most popular use-cases for the S Pen.
Thankfully, you can use any S Pen on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Whether that is from the Galaxy Tab S7, a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or anywhere else.
