Google has now announced a new update for the web version of Gmail that brings an option to resize Google Chat, Rooms, and Meet. Notably, after this update, users will be able to resize respective fields in the web sidebar on Gmail.
Last year, with a big update for Gmail for G Suite users, Google integrated and merged the video, chat, email, files, and tasks under a single roof. Making it easier for everyone to have quick access to everything important.
If you use Gmail on the web with the left-side pane open, then this update will surely make accessing and using Gmail Chat, Rooms and Meet easier.
You can keep track of your conversation and open specific chat windows. The resizing option also lets you keep this most important half of the sidebar visible while allowing limited space to the unwanted section.
In order to resize the Gmail Chat, Rooms or Meet, simply click on the header and mouse your mouse up or down to adjust the size of each section. This is a similar feature to what users can do with Hangouts widgets.
Although Hangouts widgets already had this resizing feature for a while now, it is finally arriving for Google Chat, Rooms and Meet sections. This will allow users to customize or control the already populated interface.
This new Gmail web feature is live for users starting from January 19, 2021
As per the official blog, there is no admin control for this feature. Moreover, there is no end-user setting for this feature as well. Meaning that it will be available for everyone, by default.
The new capability is available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus customers.
Besides, if you use G Suite’s Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, or Nonprofits version, then also you can use the new update.
Google has started rolling out this feature for the Gmail web version starting from January 19, 2021. Well, it may not sound like a big update for some, but it does add a bit more flexibility and ease-of-use for Gmail on the web.
This new feature goes well with the latest pin conversation feature. You can pin a certain contact and then resize your Google Chat, Rooms or Meet sections to only see those contacts that have been pinned.
It seems like Google thought of merging everything to Gmail has worked against them and has cramped up the interface. Which is the reason the company had to roll out a resizing feature to give more flexibility to its users.
