Google introduced its mid-range devices Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G back in 2020 with an updated Google Camera 8.0. The updated camera app brought in a bunch of new features along with the Auto Night Sight feature.
This feature enabled users of Pixel 5 and 4a 5G to capture images without entering the low-light mode manually. Though it may sound pretty nifty feature, it was actually annoying for many.
Now, a new update is rolling out for the Google Camera app that brings a toggle to disable the Auto Night Sight feature on Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G.
The update arrives with app version 8.1.200 and shifts the Night Sight toggle from the bottom right corner to right in front of the viewfinder in the Flash pop-up section.
For the unaware, before this update, the Auto Night Sight feature of the Google Camera app worked when you enter low-lighting conditions in Photo or Portrait mode. The Night Sight automatically gets enabled, and there was no way to turn it off by default.
Apparently, once you have set the Auto Night Sight control to disable, it applies only for that current session. Meaning that once you exit the application, the option will again reset to enable.
This can be frustrating, as not all low-light images require the use of Night Sight mode. So, that is now something that you have to remember if you dislike Auto Night Sight.
Google Camera 8.1.200 disables Auto Night Sight feature entirely
But that changes with the Google Camera 8.1.200 as the button available on the viewfinder now lets you toggle on/off Auto Night Sight.
Notably, users can turn off the flash, which has been combined to also turn off the toggle for Auto Night Sight. So, turning off the Flash will also turn off the Auto Night Sight.
Besides, Google Camera 8.1.200 will also remember if the Auto Night Sight mode is disabled through app closures, swipe aways in Recents/multitasking, and even force stops.
Google has also tweaked the Flash settings that appear when you swipe down on the screen. As per the source, the top row is called “More Light” and has three options, Flash, Night Sight, and Off.
The latest version of the Google Camera app i.e. 8.1.200 is available via the Google Play Store for the Google Pixel 5 and 4a 5G owners. It will take some time before it becomes widely available.
Good thing is that you can side-load the application from a third-party source like APKMirror and install the application just like you would do with any other app.
