Google has made it possible for almost every language-speaking individual to use its apps and smartphone easily. And now, Google Maps lets you set the in-app language, which differs from the language under device settings.
You might be aware that once you select a language in Android settings on your phone, it applies system-wide. Meaning that the apps associated with Google will also show content in the language chosen in the device settings.
However, now Google has added a new feature to Google Maps application. It basically allows you to set a language that can be different from the one chosen under device settings.
Moreover, it also means that once you choose a language in Google Maps, it will show all the in-app menus, controls, and other settings in the in-app language chosen by the user.
Changing the Google Maps language within the app is pretty easy. All you need to do is tap over your profile avatar located at the top-right corner. Then head over to Settings from there.
Under Settings, you will see an option “App Language” below which the language currently selected will be shown. It appears as the first menu item. Tap on App Language, to change the Google Maps language as per your convenience.
Google is rolling out this new Google Maps in-app language feature via a server-side update
Google announced this new Google Maps in-app language feature for India last month. The good news is that this feature is now rolling out for users across the globe.
But you do not need to do anything. Basically, Google is rolling out this feature for Google Maps via a server-side update. This means that this new feature will appear on Google Maps app installed on your phone automatically.
In the official blog when Google launched this feature for Indian users, Google said, “This will allow anyone to search for places, get directions and navigation, and interact with the Map in their preferred local language.”
We agree with the above statement and feel like getting navigated in your own local language feels more comfortable to many users. And that is the main aim of this feature.
A “Suggested” section notes the common alternative choices that you can choose from. Additionally, there is an “All” option that shows the list of all the languages that you can select within the Google Maps app.
As noted by 9To5Google, to be specific, there are a total of 79 languages that a user can choose from. Once you choose your preferred language, the app will restart to take into effect the language change and download the language pack in the background.
