HONOR has announced its new flagship smartphone, the HONOR View40. This is the first flagship the company has announced following the separation from Huawei. As most of you know by now, HONOR has been sold to a newly-formed company last year.
The HONOR View40 comes with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000+ SoC, not the Kirin 9000
This device still has a lot of Huawei influence in it as far as the design goes. The thing is, if HONOR remained a Huawei company, the device would be fueled by the Kirin 9000. Considering it’s not, this phone comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ SoC.
We’ll talk about the rest of its specifications in a bit, let’s first focus on the design. The HONOR View40 is made out of metal and glass. It comes with a rather interesting-looking camera setup on the back, and a pill-shaped display camera hole on the front.
Its display is curved, and the bezels are quite thin. The back side of the phone is also curved towards the sides, proportionally to the front. All the physical keys are located on the right-hand side of the device.
Having said that, the HONOR View40 features a 6.72-inch fullHD+ (2676 x 1236) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. That Dimensity 1000+ SoC that we mentioned is an octa-core 7nm chip, and it comes with the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU.
The phone includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of internal storage. Android 10 comes pre-installed on the phone, with Magic UI 4.0. Considering that this phone got announced in China, it doesn’t offer Google services. It may offer them when it comes to markets outside of China though.
Both its wired & wireless charging speeds are extremely fast
A 4,000mAh battery is also included, and it supports 66W SuperCharge fast charging. It also has support for 50W fast wireless charging. The device includes a set of stereo speakers, and it supports two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM).
There are three cameras on its back, lead by a 50-megapixel unit (Sony’s IMX766 sensor, f/1.9 aperture). An 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.4 aperture) is also included, as is a 2-megapixel macro camera (f/2.4 aperture). A laser autofocus sensor can be found on the back of this phone as well.
The HONOR View40 includes an optical in-display fingerprint scanner, and it does support 5G connectivity (SA/NSA). Bluetooth 5.1 is also a part of the package. The device measures 163.07 x 74.26 x 8.04mm, and it weighs 189 grams.
The HONOR View40 got announced in Midnight Black, Rose Gold, and Titanium Silver color variants. The 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage is priced at CNY3,599 ($556), while the same RAM option with 256GB of storage costs CNY3,999 ($618) in China. We’re not sure when or if this phone will reach other markets.
