Huawei Mate X2 Launch Postponed Yet Again, US Sanctions To Blame

The Huawei Mate X2 launch has been postponed yet again, it seems. The Mate X2 is supposed to become Huawei’s second-gen foldable smartphone, and it was expected to arrive at some point this month.

That is, at least, what the report is claiming. This information comes from a well-known tipster, Teme, who shared the info via Twitter. He says that the Mate X2 was supposed to arrive in January, but that it won’t happen.

The Huawei Mate X2 launch postponed yet again, it was supposed to arrive in January

He did not share any additional information, except for the fact that the launch is postponed. Back in September, a rumor surfaced, saying that the Mate X2 won’t arrive in 2020, despite the fact it was supposed to.

Well, that rumor turned out to be true, as Huawei did not announce it. It seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the device to arrive. At this point, we can’t even begin to guess when that may happen.

Huawei is expected to announce it in the first half of the year, though, so let’s hope that no additional issues will arise. The Huawei Mate X2 is expected to resemble the Galaxy Z Fold 2, as far as the general design is concerned.

Huawei seems to be ready to switch from an outfolding design, to an infolding one. In other words, the Mate X2 will probably fold like a book, so that the main display is protected when folded.

The Kirin 9000 SoC will likely fuel Huawei’s upcoming foldable smartphone

The device will likely be fueled by the Kirin 9000, Huawei’s new flagship processor. It will be made out of metal and glass, and offer premium internals and design as well.

As most of you know, Huawei has been hit with US sanctions for a while now. Because of that, the company cannot use Google services on its devices. That is making things quite complicated for Huawei, on the software side of things.

Huawei is preparing its new OS, called Harmony OS, but it’s not yet ready. At the moment, Android is coming pre-installed with EMUI skin, but without Google services on top of it. It remains to be seen what software will the Mate X2 come pre-installed with.
