It has emerged that LG has committed to try and help expand the Esports industry. LG has announced a partnership with Gen.G which is one of the biggest Esports organizations in the world.
It is becoming clear that the ever-expanding Esports industry has become a tantalizing proposition for many tech companies. LG began its foray into the business back in 2019 when it became the official partner for the Esports League Mobile Open for example.
Since then we have seen a wide range of companies beginning to get involved in the industry. For example, more recently Spotify announced a partnership with League of Legends and its creator Riot Games.
This partnership between LG and Gen.G, however, marks a much bigger step into the Esports industry. The two companies are expected to collaborate to further develop the Esports scene internationally.
LG announces Esports partnership with Gen.G
Gen.G is the sixth largest company in Esports. It owns eight professional teams from the United States, South Korea and China.
Generally, Gen.G specializes in multiplayer games such as League of Legends, Overwatch and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It also runs an academy to provide Esports education programs.
LG has begun to gain even more traction in the industry with its line of UltraGear gaming monitors. Many will see this partnership as a symbolic demonstration of its support for gaming. However, it is certainly a substantial show of support.
The UltraGear monitors offer the picture quality, speed and features that gamers need to get the most out of the latest PC and console titles. It also includes the world’s first 4K resolution display and Nano IPS display technology. The monitor also comes with Gray-to-Gray (GTG) response time of 1ms.
Chris Park, CEO of Gen.G Esports has described the partnership in glowing terms. He said, “I’m excited about the diverse possibilities this collaboration will deliver to our fans and customers.” Additionally adding “we look forward to providing the ultimate gaming experience to not just professional players but to gaming fans across the globe.”
Jang Ik-hwan, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company also commented on the partnership. The statement noted, “this partnership gives LG the opportunity to actively supporting the gaming community”.
Overall, this seems to be a very interesting proposition for the Esports industry. With big players like LG and others now committing to supporting the industry this will unlikely be the last of such partnerships we see in the near future.
