If you play online games at home then you definitely want a really good router, and NETGEAR just dropped a new router that’s perfect for gamers that will easily put other routers to shame.
The new router is the latest offering from NETGEAR’s Nighthawk line of performance routers. It’s called the Nighthawk RAXE500. It delivers a ton of excellent features for any home that has a network which is highly trafficked. Whether it’s playing online games, streaming games, streaming video, streaming music, or a combination of all of those things.
But the most notable feature that makes this router from NETGEAR perfect for gamers is the WiFi 6E support. This promises to afford gamers (and even non-gamers) a larger amount of bandwidth with less interference.
Gamers will want this NETGEAR router for the WiFi 6E alone
Sure the router looks cool, but there are more functional reasons as to why gamers would want this new router. Most specifically the WiFi 6E support.
This is a tri-band router and allows connection to the 6GHz band. As NETGEAR points out, this router will deliver 200% more available spectrum for connecting devices compared to dual-band routers. Which only support 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
That alone is enough of a reason to want this router if you play online games. Especially if part of that gaming is through platforms like Stadia, Xbox Game Pass, GeForce NOW, or Shadow. But there are more features there worth mentioning.
For instance, the pre-optimized antennas and the 5 gigabit ethernet ports. All of these features come at a cost. And if you want a router this powerful you’ll need to pay up because the Nighthawk RAXE500 doesn’t come cheap.
Running all of your devices on this router would make you the envy of all your gamer friends though.
NETGEAR plans to ship in mid-March
The router isn’t technically available yet. But you can pre-order it right now from NETGEAR if you’re willing to part with cash.
It retails for $599. Which is a big ask for anyone looking to upgrade their router. But also worth keeping in mind is that this isn’t the router you pick if you don’t connect a ton of different devices in the home.
Or if you do but aren’t as worried about bandwidth congestion. Another thing to consider is that even if this is the kind of router you’d be looking for, the devices you plan to connect to it will also need to support WiFi 6E if you want to take advantage of it.
Additional features for this router include 12 streams tri-band WiFi, which is divided up to four streams per band. Meaning four streams for the 6GHz band, four for the 5GHz band, and four for the 2.4GHz band.
It also comes with more advanced security. If you’re interested in picking this router up for yourself, you can do so from NETGEAR’s website.
