Onkyo and Pioneer have already announced their new 2021 A/V receivers that they are showing off at CES 2021 next week. Onkyo has four, and Pioneer has three, all of which support 8K and Dolby Atmos. Making them future-proof, at least for now.
These new receivers are going to be great for gamers, since they support HDMI 2.1, as well as VRR. There is of course Dolby Atmos and DTS:X available for some incredible sound out of these receivers too.
All of these new receivers from both Onkyo and Pioneer offer up the streaming protocols that you’d expect. Like Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, works with Sonos, and DTS Play-Fi. So no matter your setup, you can still stream music to your sound system and content to your TV through these receivers.
There is also two-way Bluetooth communication available for streaming from phones or listening on headphones. There is a second powered zone on all models. And they are able to connect to a “headphone dock” for listening to two different sources in the same room.
Pricing & Availability
No pricing or availability has been announced for any of these receivers. That typically means that they won’t be available until the second half of the year.
Onkyo is launching the TX-NR5100, TX-NR6100, TX-NR7100, and the TX-RZ50. Obviously the TX-NR5100 is going to be the cheapest model, and the TX-RZ50 should be the most expensive.
Meanwhile, Pioneer is launching the VSX-LX105, VSX-LX305, and the VSX-LX505 models. The later two offer up 7.2.2 channel and have seven HDMI inputs. While the first one is 5.2.2 channel and has only six HDMI inputs.
These will be great additions to anyone’s home entertainment center. Giving them a great way to plug everything in together. Including a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, NVIDIA SHIELD TV, a Sonos Arc and then some. And since we are all staying home this year too, might as well enjoy it.
