Samsung’s next flagship Exynos SoC will utilize AMD GPU. Samsung has announced its new flagship processor, the Exynos 2100, and along with it, the arrival of AMD-backed Exynos processor, kind of.
Samsung’s next Exynos SoC will use AMD GPU, which has been in development since 2019
Samsung and AMD have been in partnership since 2019. This is the first confirmation that we’ll see AMD’s GPU in one of Samsung’s processors, though. Rumors have been pointing to it, and the company just confirmed it.
Now, just to be clear, AMD did help Samsung develop the Exynos 2100 as well. That chip will fuel the Galaxy S21 series of smartphones, and it comes with the Mali-G78, which has been designed by ARM.
Thanks mainly to that chip, the Exynos 2100 is said to deliver 40-percent better graphical performance than the Exynos 990. The thing is, Samsung and AMD have been working on something special since 2019.
Samsung’s Dr Inyup Kang indicated that this GPU, which has been long-developed by the two companies, may make it to the next flagship SoC from the company. So, it’ll probably be included in the Exynos 2100’s successor.
This processor may arrive alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 later this year
He did not say when the chip will be announced, though it may arrive sooner than expected. Many people would assume it will become official at the beginning of 2022, but it may arrive sooner than that.
Based on the information provided by a well-known tipster, Ice Universe, it will arrive later this year. It may even be included in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung’s third-gen foldable smartphone.
Many people are suggesting that this upcoming GPU will be a game-changer. AMD has been crushing it in the PC world for years, with its excellent graphics cards, first and foremost. We’ll see if AMD’s mobile GPU will be as good as everyone expects it to be. Let’s hope it will arrive later this year, and not in Q1 2022.
