Sling TV announced today that it is will increase its price for the Sling Blue and Orange plans. They will cost $35 each, or $50 if you buy both.
However, this is only for new customers. If you are a current Sling TV subscriber, you won’t see this price increase. As you are grandfathered into the old price. The other part of good news here is that Sling TV is giving you more cloud DVR storage space for free. Sling TV is upping the included cloud DVR storage from 10 hours to 50 hours.
It’s actually not a huge price increase, it’s only $5 across the board. But on a percentage, that’s a little more than a 15% increase. Sling TV will remain the cheapest Streaming Live TV Service in the industry though.
Why is Sling TV raising prices?
The reason for Sling TV raising prices is basically the same as every other streaming Live TV service doing it. Networks are charging higher prices to carry their networks. And that means that they need to pass those costs onto you.
Sling TV is still quite affordable, however.
“Unfortunately, we are forced to raise prices because the television networks keep charging us more,” Michael Schwimmer, group president, Sling TV, said in a press release. “But we fight hard to get the best deal for our customers. The proof of our commitment is apparent, as SLING TV is still the best deal in the market, keeping our prices much lower than cable and other live streaming services. SLING TV customers can rest assured that we’ll continue to offer the best combination of live news, sports and entertainment cable channels at the best value.”
The new prices for the Sling Blue and Sling Orange plans are already live. So unless you are already a subscriber, there’s no way for you to get the older, cheaper prices, unfortunately.
