The PS5 has many a great gift to offer those who have the console, like HDR, that is unless you have a Samsung TV.
Some PS5 owners have reported that their Samsung TV would not allow them to utilize both the HDR feature and the 4K resolution play with 120Hz refresh rate. The issue, which is a software-based one, requires users to pick whether they want 4K and 120 frames per second, or HDR. But never both.
Also worth noting though is that this seems to be limited to just Samsung TVs. Other brands of TVs or monitors don’t appear to be lumped into the mess. The good news for Samsung TV owners who also have a PS5 is that Sony will be fixing this soon with an update.
Sony will push out an update in March to fix the PS5 HDR issue on Samsung TVs
If you’re one of the users that has both a Samsung TV and a PS5 and you have run into this problem, you won’t have to wait too much longer to have it fixed.
Sony plans to push out an update to the console that will contain the fix for this issue. It’s scheduled to arrive sometime in March, and when it does you’ll be able to set the console to display HDR and the 4K/120 fps alongside each other. Instead of having to pick one or the other.
Sony unfortunately doesn’t mention when exactly in March the update is coming. Just that it’ll be in March and that the problem has to do with the console and not the Samsung TVs.
More fixes to come
This isn’t the first issue that the PS5 has come across. And it probably won’t be the last one either.
Upon launch, the PS5 had numerous bugs that needed to be patched out. Some may still be an issue for some users. Such as the potential system crash from putting the console into rest mode.
Or the issues with the data transfer while using the back ports. The point is that Sony will more than likely have more to fix in the long run. Especially when you consider that more bugs may pop up after new features are introduced in the future of the console’s life cycle.
Regardless, keep your eyes peeled for the update to your PS5 as that will be on the way pretty soon. In the meantime you’ll have to stick with choosing whether you want HDR or 4K/120fps.
