Here's Why Samsung Removed The Charger From The Galaxy S21 Box

As you most definitely already know, Samsung has decided to remove the charger from the box. Starting with the Galaxy S21 series. Following the lead of Apple, with the iPhone 12 series last year. Meaning that the only things that are included in the box are the phone, the USB-C to USB-C cable and the SIM ejector tool.

But, why did Samsung make the decision to remove the wall charger from the Galaxy S21 box? Samsung’s EVP and Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet stated that “we discovered that more and more Galaxy users are reusing accessories they already have and making sustainable choices in their daily lives to promote better recycling habits. To support our Galaxy community in this journey, we are transitioning to removal of the charger plug and earphones in our latest line of Galaxy smartphones.”

Basically, most people aren’t using the charger that comes in their new phone box, but one they already had. So to be environmentally conscious, Samsung is removing the charger from the box.

Older Samsung chargers are compatible with the Galaxy S21 series

Chomet also notes that “we’ve also been implementing standardized USB-C type charging ports since 2017, so older chargers can still be compatible with our newest Galaxy models.”

Basically stating that they didn’t move to a new charger this year, when they decided to remove it from the box. Something Apple did with the iPhone 12 last fall.

This makes the move sting a little less for Samsung users. Seeing as the chargers from the Galaxy S20, S10 and a few older ones, will still work with the Galaxy S21. And users can also buy a third-party charger, if they wish to do so, for a pretty cheap price. Particularly if they want a faster USB-C charger for their Galaxy S21.

Additionally, the Galaxy S21 series is also $200 cheaper across the entire series, compared to the Galaxy S20 series. Which also takes a bit of the sting out of the charger being missing. As you are paying less, considerably less.
