Xiaomi has a different update policy, unlike other OEMs. Notably, it rolls out the latest versions of its own custom UI, the MIUI on top of old Android OS versions.
Xiaomi introduced the MIUI 12 custom UI around six months ago and is already running on multiple Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones.
Moreover, these Xiaomi, POCO, and Redmi phones that have been fortunate to pick up the MIUI 12 update have been released in the last 15 months. So, these devices were in the front line to receive the MIUI 12 update.
Soon, Xiaomi will push the MIUI 12 stable update for older devices in the coming weeks and months. Xiaomi has added a ton of features to the MIUI 12 update, which is the reason Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO owners wait for MIUI updates more than Android OS updates on their devices.
Besides, just to give you a brief idea of features, MIUI 12 brings an improved system-wide dark mode, AI-assisted calling features, Dynamic Always-on Display, new visual design, system animations tweaks, and much-needed privacy fixes.
Apparently, it all started with Mi 10 and Redmi Note 9, where these devices picked up the MIUI 12 based on Android 11 in December in India. Later, it was pushed for global Redmi K30 units and the Mi 9 series.
