There's Some Big Changes Coming To Picture-In-Picture In Android 12

As we await Google unveiling the first developer preview of Android 12 in the coming days, we are already starting to see a lot of the features that are coming in Android 12.

XDA has unearthed a lot of new features in Android 12 already, and now it has found a new “stashing” feature for Picture-In-Picture.

Essentially, what this new stashing feature allows you to do, is hide the PiP window, completely. While the audio would still continue playing in the background. This could be useful for some videos that you only want to hear audio of. Users will be able to drag it to the left or right edge, until around a third of the PiP window is off the screen.

That’s not all though, Google is also working on new ways to resize PiP windows. Users will be able to resize the window by double tapping it to automatically resize the window to its max size.

Now, not quite related to PiP, but Bubbles is getting some new animations. There is going to be a fading/scaling down animation when dragging out an expanded bubble, softer expand/collapse animations and a softer transition between bubbles. While in landscape mode, bubbles will be shown vertically on the left/right side rather than horizontally at the top of the screen.

Google is also getting ready to upgrade Android’s split-screen multitasking system, with app pairs. This will let you launch a set pair of apps in split-screen mode. Similar to the way App Pairs works on Samsung smartphones.

There seems to be quite a few feature changes coming in Android 12 this year, and we can’t wait for Google to release the developer preview, so we can start playing with the new version of Android, and that shouldn’t be too long from now.
