Pixel Launcher on Android 12 Developer Preview 1 brings a new grid option to Pixel phones. If you’ve installed Android 12 Developer Preview 1, you’ll notice a new 4×5 grid option in the settings.
With the Pixel 5 launch last year, Google started offering the option to adjust the grid size in your Pixel launcher. Back then, the company offered four options, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, and 5×5. All of those are square aka symmetrical.
Android 12 brings a new grid option to Pixel Launcher
Well, another option is not included, the only non-symmetrical one, a 4×5 option. That means that you get four spaces across, and five spaces down on your homescreen, if you select it.
If you do have Android 12 Developer Preview 1 installed, all you have to do is long press on a black spot on your homepage. Once a new menu pops up, tap ‘Styles & wallpapers’. From there, choose ‘Grid’ in the bottom bar. Once you do that, you’ll be able to scroll down to spot the ‘4×5’ option.
What’s interesting, is that if you select this option, the suggestion row in the app drawer shrinks down to four apps wide, reports 9to5Google. The rest of the drawer stays at five apps wide, though.
It will probably make its way to the final build
This new grid option will probably be available in the final build as well. In fact, Google may even offer more grid options by the time the final build comes Around. We still have to go through several Developer Previews and Beta builds.
There are many launchers available for Android 12, and many of them offer a ton of options to users. The Pixel Launcher has been rather slow to add these customization options, but they’re coming slowly.
In fact, it may even offer a double tap gesture by the time a stable build comes around, finally! Nothing is confirmed at this point, but it seems like Google is working on it, at least based on Android 12 Developer Preview 1.
