Conversations Widget May Debut With Android 12

It seems like Google is preparing a Conversations widget for Android 12, at least according to Developer Preview 1. As most of you know, Google released the very first Developer Preview for Android 12 yesterday.

We already have a ton of coverage on the site, and more is coming. The latest piece of news comes from XDA Developers, and it hints at the arrival of a Conversations widget.

Conversations widget will likely debut in Android 12, once the stable version arrives

The Conversations widget was hinted at by an early draft of upcoming Android 12 changes which surfaced a while back. That document included some screenshots of the OS, detailing changes, including the Conversations widget.

In the meantime, the Developer Preview 1 dropped, and it can be confirmed that Google is working on the feature. If you take a look at the provided screenshot below, you’ll see a confirmation, pretty much.

XDA Developers believe that you’ll get the option to pick a particular conversation to add to the widget, once you place it on the homescreen, as this screenshot suggests. Once you do that, that widget will keep track of that particular conversation and show you recent messages, missed calls, and activity statuses.

The feature is not functional in Developer Preview 1

The feature is not functional in Developer Preview 1. It may become functional in upcoming Developer Previews, or Betas. If not, we do expect it to make its way to the final build of Android 12.

While we wait for that to happen, you can check out the screenshots below. In them, you can see the Conversations widget in action, and the process of adding it, pretty much. This is exactly what we’re expecting will happen once it becomes functional.

Android 12 Developer Preview 1 revealed quite a few details about the OS. Future builds will deliver even more stuff to the table, but it seems like we’re in for quite a treat. Android 12 won’t reach the stable mark before August, unfortunately, so keep that in mind.
