The very first Android 12 Developer Preview is right around the corner, and our very first look at the OS just surfaced. These Android 12 design mockups show a rather considerable change from the design standpoint.
That’s not something many people expected, but it seems like that’s what we’ll get. If you take a look at the gallery below the article, you’ll see design concepts from RKBDI, that have been shared by XDA.
These screenshots provide us with first look at upcoming Android 12 OS
These come from Google briefings with OEM partners, allegedly. In these screenshots, you’ll notice that the theme is not black or white, it’s sand-colored. That’s because the UI adapted to the wallpaper, it took its colorway to create a theme for itself.
This is a feature that was rumored to be coming. We wrote recently that Android 12 will probably get a new theming system that will allow something like this, and there you go.
You’ll also notice a couple of “Conversation” widgets for recent messages, missed calls, and so on. These come in a 2×1 aspect ratio, or so it seems. You’ll also notice some changes to the Pixel Launcher here, it’s now left-aligned, while the weather widget is above the day / date info.
We’re also expecting to see some changes to the Widgets screen. It is no longer a carousel, but a scrollable list, at least based on the provided information that we can see here.
The notification cards will be different as well, they’ll be more rounded
The notification sheet is also shown here, and it features a blurred background. The cards that you get for notifications are heavily rounded, which is yet another change in comparison to Android 11.
Android 12 will also show you when the microphone and camera are active it seems, in a rather obvious way. You’ll notice a green “pill” in the top-right corner, which does shrink to a dot, depending on your location within the UI.
There are quite a few screenshots included in the gallery below, so take a closer look to notice a bevy of changes. Do note that it’s possible there will be some changes before Android 12 drops.
Speaking of which, if Google intends to stick to last year’s schedule, the very first Developer Preview will drop at some point this month.
