Fitbit Empowers Its App With New Blood Glucose Tracking Feature

Fitbit is adding a new feature to its companion application that lets you track your blood glucose trends. While the only way to really measure your blood sugar at home is with a dedicated device that requires you to prick your finger, this new feature is not trying to replace that.

Rather it’s aim is to help you better understand your own health and give you a way to track meaningful data over time.

Fitbit is rolling the new feature out to users starting this month. But right now the company says it will only be available to US users, and it will only support English for now. It should also be available to both Android and iOS users. Though Fitbit doesn’t specifically mention any platforms.

Use the Fitbit app to track your blood glucose trends

As mentioned the new feature is about staying on top of data that you might find useful. Like tracking your blood glucose trends.

One thing to keep in mind is that the app does not automatically track stuff for you. For it to work its magic, you’ll need to consistently log your blood glucose information in the app. You do also have the option of importing that data. So if you have a device which can track it automatically, then importing the data will make for less work for you. Seeing as you won’t have manually enter all that information.

You’ll also want to set target ranges for your blood glucose. Once that’s done, you can open the app to see trends and see if you ever fall outside of those ranges. By having these insights, Fitbit is hoping that users will have more tools at their disposal to help track and manage blood glucose and overall health.

The app can remind you to log information

In an effort to help those who may be a bit absent minded, the app has the capability to send you reminders about logging information.

If the app notices that it’s been a while since you last logged or imported some blood glucose data, it’ll remind you to enter the necessary information. So it’s like having your own personal assistant helping you track of this stuff.

All of your blood glucose data is presented in graphs that Fitbit says will be easy to read. And below the graphs there are even some additional useful resources for help you manage your blood sugar. Including tips for how other activities impact it, and guides on how to eat well with diabetes etc.
