Google Maps Testing A Clean UI For The Route Selection Screen

Google is making efforts to provide you with the best possible experience while using Google Maps. In line with this, the latest report from XDA suggests the Google Maps route selection screen may soon get UI change to make it more uniform.

Thanks to COVID-19, driving or traveling is not something that one is thinking about these days. Most people are either working/studying from home or staying at home to avoid getting contracted with coronavirus.

But the latest improvements added to Google Maps would definitely make navigation easier the next time you decide to drive.

Recently, Google added the split-screen UI from the web version to the Android app, which allows users to navigate more easily. Now, Google is testing out a new clean UI for the route selection screen that makes it easier to understand.

Instead of blocking the entire view at the top, the Google Maps route option now shows a top bar. This top bar only includes your starting point and destination. The different modes of transport, i.e. driving, biking, walking, public transportation have been removed from this top bar.

All these different modes of transport are now available to access from the bottom via a scrollable list. All these changes give the route selection bar a much cleaner look.

Google Maps appears to be testing with a small group at the moment

Additionally, there is an option button where you can set the directions in order to avoid highways, tolls, etc. The options button can also be used to add a stop, set depart or arrive time, set a reminder to leave, or even share directions.

Another advantage of this new UI is that it is much easier to select arrival or departure time. Some may like this refreshed UI while some may not.

But it gives Google Maps app a much cleaner and uniform appearance. Google provides some of the most vital apps that are used by millions across the globe.

Google Maps is another app that is trusted by many for navigation. The addition of the latest features and UI changes will only make Google Maps better than its competition.

At the moment, Google seems to be testing this new UI for Google Maps route selection screen feature with a small group of people. So, it is unclear when this new feature will be available for the masses.

However, since the feature is already undergoing testing, we can expect it to be available to more users in the coming days.
