In the latest APK Insight post, 9To5Google reveals that the Google Pixel Buds app may soon get a manual firmware update option. This would allow users to manually check and download the firmware for Pixel Buds.
Google launched the second-gen Pixel Buds back in April 2020. Ever since they made their debut, Pixel Buds were asking for a way to quickly update the firmware of their wireless earbuds.
As of now, the Pixel Buds case would pick up the update using your phone and install it when they are not in use. Fortunately, that may change soon. Because the Pixel Buds app may soon get a manual firmware update option.
In the latest Google Pixel Buds app version 1.0.354813492, which is currently rolling out via the Google Play Store, a few strings of code have been spotted.
The newly added text on the Pixel Buds settings would allow users to manually update the firmware with just a tap. On Google Pixel phones, this option can be found under the Settings app.
However, on other phones, you will find this manual update option in the standalone Pixel Buds app. Here the string of text found in the latest version of the Pixel Buds app:
- <string name=”summary_manual_update_available_pref”>Tap to manually update your earbuds</string>
Pixel Buds app will notify you if the update faces an installation error
A couple of strings of text in the Pixel Buds app highlights the app will notify the user if there is an installation error. This notification will also let the user retry or simply wait for the firmware update.
- <string name=”manual_update_error_notification_title”>Could not finish the update</string>
- <string name=”manual_update_error_notification_body”>Tap to retry</string>
This is nice considering users will now be able to trigger or check for a new update manually via the app. Well, there is one important thing that our readers should note.
It is that the features found in the APK Insight post may or may not make their way to the future version of the app. These new strings of code hint that the company is working on some new features.
But it depends entirely on them whether or not they will include these features in future versions. Moreover, the interpretation of the feature may also be completely wrong. So bear that in mind.
Folks at 9To5Google were not able to get the option working on their version of the app. This means that it is not possible to tell more about this feature apart from the strings of texts that have been discovered.
