A new day and a new February update is live for the Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphones. More importantly, this latest update fixes the battery drain issue which several Galaxy S21 users were facing.
Notably, this is the second February update for the Galaxy S21 devices. The previous one updated the security patch level to February 2021.
Although the changelog does not mention anything related to fixing the battery drain issue, multiple Galaxy S21 users took to XDA forums to report that the update indeed fixes the battery drain issues.
Some time back, users of Galaxy S21 reported that switching over to the LTE module drains out the battery excessively. This issue surfaced the Galaxy S21 units after the previous update.
Moreover, multiple apps were still running in the background draining the battery, despite setting it to deep sleep. Only the Exynos variants of the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus were affected by this problem. The temporary fix for this issue was to put the phone in Airplane mode.
Samsung, fortunately, acknowledged the issues as soon as the issue was reported. The company even said that it is working on a fix for this issue and will soon roll out an update.
Snapdragon models and Exynos Galaxy S21 Ultra were not plagued by the battery drain issue
As per multiple reports on Reddit and the official Samsung community forum, the Snapdragon models and the Exynos Galaxy S21 Ultra devices were not suffering from this battery drain issue.
The good thing is that it seems like the fix is arriving with this second February update. Talking about the update, it arrives with firmware version G9988XXU1AUB6 and weighs around 257.34 MB in size.
The update keeps the security patch level at February 2021. The changelog of the update mentions it brings improvements in the camera and overall system performance.
Despite no mention of fixing the battery drain issue, several users have themselves confirmed that the latest update with software version AUB6 solves the battery drain problem.
At present, the new update is rolling out only for the users in UK, Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany. However, it is expected to expand over to other regions in the coming days.
The update, as usual, is rolling out via OTA in batches. It will make its way to all the devices gradually. So, if your device has not picked up the update yet, then you need to probably wait for it.
You can also manually check for the update by heading over to Settings>> System updates>> Download and install. Your phone will then start checking for the new update.
