According to Engadget Spotify is building machine learning to help with podcast discovery. Spotify improving podcast discovery should come as no surprise as podcasts are very popular. Spotify has always had the knack for helping users discover music based on their listening history. Now they are looking to do the same with podcasts.
Spotify announced this during a live stream event today February 22 but gave minimal details. Searching podcasts will become smarter allowing you to search for broad terms like “cooking”. This will give users a list of shows that relate to their search terms.
The new search feature is being tested here in the US currently, and will roll out to more countries “soon”. Are you a creative person looking to get into podcasting? Here is some good news for you then. Spotify will allow users to create their own podcasts thanks to a partnership with WordPress.
Users will be able to use Anchor and transform written content into podcasts. This will undoubtedly make creating podcasts much easier. This new tool is the first one Spotify is adding, but there are more on the horizon.

Other features coming are including questions or polls to podcasts and more options to include video in a podcast. They also announced some news related to new content. For fans of Anthony and Joe Russo, the geniuses behind Infinity War and Endgame, they have a new deal with Spotify.
The new deal will have the brothers create audio for Spotify. The content will be focused on “scripted content and universe-building”. However, the universes remain a mystery. Also, there is no news on when the new content will be available.
DC, Warner Brothers, and Spotify have a partnership that will produce new content as well. Spotify gave updates on this partnership as well. Batman Unburied is a project born of this partnership. David S Goyer is producing this new project which launches this year.
The last bit of news from Spotify today is for businesses. Spotify’s Ad Studio can now be used for podcasts as well as music. Ad Studio is a self-service ad platform for advertisers. The platform allows advertisers to buy ads in music streams.
Now advertisers will be able to do the same for original and exclusive podcasts. More podcasts in the future will support this later. Thankfully, this shouldn’t mean that you will be buried in ads. But, it means that advertisers will have an easier time placing ads in Spotify’s content.
