Samsung Galaxy S10 series users on Verizon have a new update incoming, according to recent reports. And Samsung Galaxy S9 series users do too.
Now, the updates themselves aren’t anything too drastic. But they will bump the build numbers a bit. For the Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10e, the build numbers will be pushed to software versions G977UVRS5EUA4, G975USQS4FUA1, and G970USQS4FUA1. Conversely, The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will shift to G960USQS9FUB2 and G965USQS9FUB2.
So what is in this update for Samsung Galaxy S10 and S9 users?
For the time being, at the very least, both Samsung Galaxy S10 and S9 series update changelogs point to a fairly straightforward security patch. Namely, the security patch is being bumped to February 2021. And the logs don’t indicate that there are any further changes being made. But that doesn’t mean this update should be written off.
Samsung announced this week that it would be pushing even more security updates to its older handsets moving forward. In fact, the company says that devices in almost all of its line-ups will be getting four years of updates in total on the security front. So, for the Samsung Galaxy S10, at a minimum, this isn’t going to be the last update either.
Other devices, from the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy A, and Galaxy M series to the Note, Fold, XCover, and Tab lines will be receiving them too. Just so long as they’re devices from 2019 or later. And the “four-year” timeline here is also a minimum standard set by Samsung. So these devices could stay secure for longer still, depending on how far back Samsung’s updates can go on the software side without becoming impractical.
Here’s how you can get the update
To get the update, users can wait for the OTA to appear as a notification or check for it manually. In the latter case, that’s a fairly straightforward process. In fact, the way to update Android is fairly standard across most devices.
Users simply need to go to the Settings app, swipe down to the bottom and locate “Software update” — or “System updates” — and tap “download and install.”
